Ep. 1: Hard Season
Hard Season is a portrait of Winnipeg (also known as Winterpeg), a very cold city in Canada. We were not living in Winnipeg (our hometown) last winter during the conception of this song, and I was imagining running into old friends on the street in January and remembering how bitterly, terribly cold it is there.
Winter changes people. The last time I saw these friends -- at Winnipeg Folk Festival, the most blissful and certainly the hottest festival of the year, taking place in the smoking hot July prairie summertime -- they were their summer selves, the complete opposite of who they are in winter.
